Volvo XC40 T4 Engine and Performance
The XC40 T4 is powered by a BS VI compliant 2.0 litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 190 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. The motor has great refinement levels and acceleration is linear all through out. It wont give you an outright thrill even when the turbo kicks in but is smooth all through. Push the pedal hard and the engine doesn’t tend to get noisy post the 3000rpm mark. Shifts from the eight speed automatic gearbox are smooth but doesn’t feel very responsive. Best results are when you drive with a light foot. You get multiple drive modes as well : Eco, Comfort, Dynamic and Off-road. The Off-road mode activates Hill Descent Control and lightens the steering, because the XC40 T4 is available in a front wheel drive layout only.
Handling is predictable, and while body roll is well controlled, the XC40 will not excite you going around corners. Ride quality is good overall and you only feel bumps are lower speeds. High speed stability is excellent and braking is impressive.
