Step inside and you are immediately reminded of the XC90. The cabin has a very airy feel to it. Take some time to soak in the high quality finished interior of the S90, that features a nice mix of leather and real wood. The quality of material used is top notch and the attention to detail is simply fantastic. The vertical AC vents feature knobs with knurled metal finish. Same goes for the engine start/stop switch and the drive mode selector roller. The seats feature a tiny Swedish flag label and the seat belts have a ‘Since 1959’ stamping on the buckle that reminds you that Volvo was the inventor of the three point seat belt back in 1959. There is a 12.3 screen for the digital instrument cluster. It is uncluttered and easy to read. The centre console features a 9 inch touchscreen for the Sensus infotainment system. The screen controls almost all the functions of the S90 including AC blower speed, audio, safety systems and navigation. While the screen is easy to use, adjusting the climate control settings can be tricky as you have to take your eyes off the road to get the job done. The touchscreen is also a fingerprint magnet. The steering wheel has a simple three spoke design and feels nice to hold. We however wish it came with electric adjust. The Volvo S90 will be launched in the fully loaded Inscription trim only. This means that the car comes loaded with features. The four zone climate control did manage to keep the cabin cool despite the sweltering Rajasthan heat. The glovebox gets the cooling feature as well. There are sun blinds for the rear passenger windows. A rear windshield sun blind is sorely missed though. The Bowers and Wilkins 1400 Watt sound system is one of the finest around. The system has a setting which replicates the acoustics of the Gothenburg Concert Hall in the S90. It gets a subwoofer as well. An electric sunroof comes standard but a panoramic one would definitely have been nice.
The seats come finished in high quality Nappa leather. The front seats are large and extremely comfortable. They come with cooling function and also get electric thigh support adjust. The seats have been designed with inputs from orthopaedic surgeons. There is acres of legroom at the rear and the large windows give a feeling of space. While the rear seats are comfortable, under thigh support could have been better. This matters a lot as most owners of the S90 will spend majority of their time in the rear seat. The rear is also best for two people. The high transmission tunnel will make life difficult for a third occupant. The rear also comes with a child booster seat that pops up from the seat base. This can be height adjusted to suit kids across different age groups. There is 500 litres of cargo boot space and the boot itself is power operated. Just swipe your foot under the rear bumper and the boot will open. Volvo has thrown in a space saver tyre as well. Continued…
