Volvo has opened pre bookings for the new S90 sedan in India. The Volvo S90 replaces the S80 in the Indian market.
The Volvo S90 will be powered by a 2.0 litre diesel engine. India is expected to get the 190 horsepower D4 at launch followed by the 235 horsepower D5 motor. The engine should help Volvo escape the diesel ban of the NCR region.
The S90 reflects Volvo’s new design language that was first seen in the new XC90 SUV. There is a large front grille and its also get the Thor headlamps. Things are similar on the interior too as the S90 also gets a touch screen infotainment system that is seen on its SUV stable mate. The S90 uses Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) technology. The new Volvo S90 comes equipped with an advanced semi-autonomous drive feature, Pilot Assist. The system gives gentle steering inputs to keep the car properly aligned within lane markings up to motorway speeds of around 130 km/h and no longer needs to follow another car. The S90 also comes with large animal detection as part of its City Safety package. This system is capable of detecting large animals such as elk, horses or moose, night or day. The technology offers an intuitive warning and brake support to help avoid a collision.
Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, “The S90 is one of the most awaited launch from Volvo’s portfolio this year. It’s got everything you would expect a luxurious sedan to have- the look, the feel and the design without any compromise on the comfort! The S90 comes with a sub 2L diesel engine and we are confident that it will change the dynamics of the segment in India. We are opening the pre-bookings for our patrons who would like to be the early ones to own the S90.”
The Volvo S90 will rival the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6 and the Jaguar XF in the Indian market.
