Volkswagen GTI Verdict

The Volkswagen GTI is nothing short of a driver’s delight. There are very few cars out that can get your adrenaline rush. The engine is a stonker and the car comes with the famed European build quality as well. But the GTI is not about cheap thrills. This hot hatch was launched at Rs. 25.99 lakh and at that price it isn’t exactly a value for money proposition. It got a price cut too recently too and now retails at Rs. 19.99 lakh ex showroom (link) but even at that price it is expensive. The GTI pulls at your heart strings and decisions taken from the head have no place here. Plus, it looks similar to the regular Polo means you won’t really turn heads wherever you go. For that flash and attention, you have the Mini Cooper S with identical performance figures but you pay a lot more than what you pay for the GTI. On the flip side, it makes for the perfect sleeper car. The look on unsuspecting drivers with bigger cars when a Polo leaves them in the dust is worth every rupee you pay for it. So if price isn’t a deterrent, the GTI is one car that will keep the petrol head in you grinning mile after mile after mile.
