During the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, a new trend of online car launches has emerged. Joining this trend now is the Czech carmaker Skoda. The brand shall be unveiling three brand new models, virtually, on the 26th of May. The three cars to be showcased include the much-awaited Karoq SUV, the Superb facelift and the new turbo-petrol powered Rapid. All three cars will come with BS-VI compliant motors and would miss out on a diesel-powered option. Read ahead to find out more about these cars.
Skoda Karoq
A few years back, Skoda brought in the Yeti SUV which found its space in the heart of many customers in India. The Karoq aims to fill in the void which has been left ever since the tiny 4×4 has been discontinued. Powering this car would be the 150hp/250Nm 1.5-litre TSI petrol motor, paired exclusively with the 7-speed DSG. This Jeep Compass rival would be brought in the market as a CBU which would lead to a rather hefty price tag. However, with features like a virtual cockpit, touch-enabled infotainment screen, 9 airbags, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and much more, the car does not skimp on any equipment.
Skoda Superb Facelift
A rather successful offering of the brand, this premium segment sedan is expected to receive a few styling changes and a new engine in this facelift. Apart from a revised bumper design and front grille, the facelift Superb will also come with a new headlamp design. On the inside, Skoda shall offer their virtual cockpit along with a bunch of other features, including a wireless charger, updated infotainment system and more. Under the bonnet, this sedan will come with a 2-litre TSI petrol engine, tuned to offer 190 hp of power mated to a 7-speed DSG. When launched, the car will compete with the Toyota Camry.
Skoda Rapid
This entry-level sedan is placed in a rather competitive segment. With options like the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Volkswagen Vento to choose from, the Rapid needs to be at the top of its game. In terms of features or cosmetics, no changes are expected, there shall be a major change under the bonnet. The car will now be offered with the 110 hp/175Nm, 1-litre turbocharged petrol motor. While bookings of the manual transmission models are already open, expect Skoda to offer a torque converter type automatic on the sedan soon.
