The Skoda Kodiaq has been showcased at the Paris Motor Show. It will come to India in the second half of this year.
The Skoda Kodiaq is the first seven seater SUV in the 120 year history of the Czech car maker. The name takes inspiration from an Alaskan bear called Kodiak. The new SUV is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, which also the base for the Superb and Octavia sedans. It is 4,697 mm long, 1,882 mm wide and 1,676 mm tall (including roof rails);with a wheelbase of 2,791 mm.
The exterior features a wide three dimensional front grille along with narrow raked headlights integrating into the grille. The two double-headlights create a striking four-eyed face and stand out due to their crystalline structure, which can also be seen in other features such as the rear lights. Skoda’s Head of Design, Jozef Kabaň, and his team were inspired by traditional Czech crystal glass art which is also reflected in the effective interplay of light and shade on the SUV’s highly contoured surfaces. The rear features LED tail lamps with the Skoda trademark C shaped design.
Other features include Swing Infotainment system with a 6.5 inch screen. It can be supplemented with a smartphone Bluetooth connection and ŠKODA SmartLink. SmartLink supports the use of the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLinkTM standards in the car. When the customer connects their phone to the USB port, the relevant setting displays on the infotainment display. The optional Bolero infotainment system features a high-definition 8.0-inch touchscreen, including the In-Car Communication (ICC) function. The hands-free microphone records the driver’s voice, and transfers it to the back seats via the rear speakers. The Skoda Kodiaq will be available internationally with a choice of two TDI diesel and three TSI petrol engines. India could get the 2.0 TDI diesel engine that is available in two states of tune: 150 and 190 horsepower and maximum torque of 340 Nm and 400 Nm respectively. It goes from 0 to 100 kph in 8.6 seconds and has a top speed of 210 kph. India could also get the 2.0 litre petrol motor that develops 180 horsepower and 320 Nm.
The Skoda Kodiaq will be available with a choice of a six speed manual or six and seen speed DSG gearbox. Skoda is also debuting its new 7 speed dual clutch gearbox. It has been designed for more powerful engines and can handle torque of 600 Nm.
The Skoda Kodiaq is expected to launch in India in September or October 2017.
