Porsche reveals new Boxster Spyder
Porsche has revealed the new Boxster Spyder ahead of its world premiere at the 2015 New York Motor Show. The Stuttgart manufacturer says that this two seater is for the purist and we can see why. The fabric roof is closed and opened by hand and the Spyder comes only with a six speed manual gearbox.
Powering the Spyder is a 3.8 litre six cylinder engine putting out 375 horses that propels the car from 0 to 100 kph in 4.5 seconds and to a top speed of 290 kph. It also gets a lower stiffened suspension with a 20 mm lower ride height and brakes are taken from the 911 Carrera.
The Boxster Spyder styling has been inspired by the 718 Spyder of the 1960s. It has two prominent streamlined bulges that extend down along the long rear lid behind the headrests. The front and rear of the car are taken from the Cayman GT4.
On the interior, you get light sports bucket seats with large side supports and a new steering wheel with a diameter of 360 mm. To reduce weight, Porsche does not offer a radio or air conditioning as standard in the Spyder. These can however be ordered as optional extras from the factory at no extra cost to the customer. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with all of its special features can also be ordered as optional equipment.
Porsche says this the lightest and most powerful Boxster ever made.
