Porsche recently introduced the coupe and cabriolet versions of the Carrera marque in the much-loved 911 series of cars. Carreras are entry-level 911s and are superseded by Carrera S, a sportier version of the same.
Firepower to the new siblings comes from a 3.0L inline-6 bi-turbo ‘boxer’ engine that makes 385 hp at the crank, an improvement of 15 hp over the outgoing versions. Agility is achieved by the use of compact yet powerful components for the turbocharging unit and assisted by Porsche’s 8-speed PDK gearbox. The drag resistant coupe sibling car hit a ton from naught in 4.2 seconds, and if, like me, decimals make you paranoid, the sports chrono package can help shave off the 0.2 seconds too. The Carrera 911s ride on 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch wheels at the rear, with stopping power coming from 4-piston monobloc callipers clamping at 330mm discs.
While it is easy to mistake 911 Carreras for its more meritorious siblings, Porsche helps you do so by means of smaller wheels, brake callipers and exhaust tips.
The 911 Carrera comes with a host of features, which are similar to ones found on higher variants such as the Carrera S. These include a 10.9-inch touchscreen display, comprehensive connectivity and innovative assistance systems, such as the Porsche Wet Mode for safer handling.
