Porsche has announced the production commencement of the new 718 Cayman. The Porsche 718 Cayman is being produced at the company’s headquarters in Zuffenhausen, Germany.
“The production launch of the Cayman successor models was executed to our full satisfaction,” says Albrecht Reimold, Executive Board Member for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG. “After the successful launches of the new 911 at the end of last year and of the new 718 Boxster in spring 2016, the team in Zuffenhausen also handled this production launch impeccably. This is further proof that our employees work with perfection and passion on a daily basis to enable a very special Porsche experience for our customers.” The Porsche 718 Cayman features a turbocharged 2.0 litre four cylinder flat engine that develops 300 horsepower and 380 Nm of maximum torque, that is 35% more than the previous model. The 718 Cayman S model gets a turbocharged 2.5 litre engine with variable turbine geometry (VTG), good for 350 horses and 420 Nm torque.
When equipped with Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK gearbox) and Sport Chrono Package, the Porsche 718 Cayman goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, whilst the S-version does the same in 4.2 seconds. The top speed for the base model is 275 kph;the S model tops out at 285 kph.
Orders for the Porsche 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman S have begun and the market launch is slated for September 24, 2016.
