Nissan could launch the zero emission Leaf in India
Nissan recently showcased the all electric Leaf at an event at the Buddh International Circuit. Well now the buzz is that there could a possibility of the Leaf seeing an India launch soon.
The Government of India’s FAME (or Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) which starts this month could help Nissan to speed up the process to launch the zero emission car in India.
The Leaf is powered by an 80 Kw AC electric motor which puts out 254 Nm of torque. The car can run 160 kms on a full charge. A full charge of the battery takes 8 hours while there is an option for quick charge which gets the job done in 4 hours. This is done via an onboard charger which you can buy as an option. Nissan is looking at expanding the range to 400 kms. For this, Nissan is working with its extended research centre at IIT Madras to improve battery performance.
The Leaf comes loaded with safety features that include ABS, EBD, six airbags, vehicle dynamic control and traction control. Nissan has sold over 160,000 units worldwide making it the world’s best selling electric car. It will be interesting to see how many cars Nissan sells if the car is eventually launched in the Indian market.
