The next generation Mahindra Thar has been under development for quite a while now and many spy shots have emerged over a period of time. Now, a new spy shot of the upcoming model has surfaced. The SUV has been covered with white sheets which are applied usually before the vehicle is despatched to dealerships.
While at first glance the new Thar seems to share some similarities with its predecessor, it is an all model from ground up. It gets an all new chassis and body panels. The round headlamps get circular daytime running lamps and a flatter bonnet. Some jeep traits like the bonnet hinges remain. The new model is also wider and one can notice 18 inch alloy wheels finished in black.
The new Mahindra Thar is expected to come with a BS 6 compliant 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine good for 140 horsepower. A new petrol engine from Mahindra’s new mStallion family of engines is also expected to make its way into the Thar’s engine bay. The engines will come mated to a six speed manual gearbox and an automatic variant is expected at a later date.
The new Thar will come with a long list of features. These would comprise of an MID in the instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, manual air conditioning and power folding mirrors.
Standard safety features on the new Thar will include dual airbags and ABS. A rear view camera is expected on the higher variants.
Launch of the new Thar is expected to happen in the second half of 2020.
