The new Mercedes E-Class will be launched in India on February 28, 2017. This is the 5th generation of the luxury sedan.
For the first time, the Mercedes E-Class will be sold in India in the extended wheel base guise. The standard model will not make it to Indian showrooms. Till now, it has only been China that has long wheel base versions of luxury cars. But since China is a left hand drive market, Mercedes has had to re-engineer the E-Class to make it a right hand drive for our country at a sizeable cost. The car maker believes that it sell good volumes to recover the investment made.
The V213 (code for the extended wheelbase) Mercedes E-Class has a length of 5.063 metres and a wheelbase of 3.079 metres. This makes is 140 mm longer than the standard car. Focus has been on the rear and will make majority of E-Class owners, who are chauffeur driven happy. The new E-Class comes with a dashboard similar to that of the bigger S-Class. This includes two 12.3 inch screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The car will also get Mercedes’ latest version of the COMMAND infotainment system.
The new Mercedes E-Class will come with both, petrol and diesel engines. The petrol will most likely get the E200 moniker and will be powered by a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine that develops 184 horsepower. The diesel will be the 350d, that comes with a 3.0 litre V6 oil burner developing 258 horses.
Expect the new Mercedes E-Class to be considerably more expensive than its predecessor with prices hovering from 60 to 70 lakh ex showroom. It will also be more costly than it rivals.
