To widen the spread of sedan models in the portfolio, Honda is planning to sell the older fourth generation City along side the all new model. Both the new and old City will occupy different sections of the segment.
According to a media report, the outgoing model could retain the City name while new car could get a suffix added, some similar to what Toyota did with the Innova Crysta. The Thailand spec City is called the City Turbo but that nomenclature cannot be used in India as we will not be getting the turbocharged engine in the City.
Honda could possibly also rename the current City, something that Maruti Suzuki has done with the Dzire, by calling the older model Dzire Tour. With this move, Honda could target the fleet market, something that the Japanese car maker isn’t known for.
The all new Honda City is expected to cost Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 more than the outgoing model. Once the new model is out, Honda could also drop prices of the current gen car, making it more affordable. That said, the new Honda City is expected to be a great overall package with a great feature list, reliability and comfort.
