Step inside the MG Windsor EV and the first thing you notice is the sense of space.
MG Windsor EV Performance
The MG Windsor EV comes with a 38 kWh battery pack powering a permanent magnet synchronous motor. It develops 136 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. MG claims 331 km on a single charge and a 0 to 100 kph timing of 9.4 seconds. The Windsor EV doesn’t feel quick off the line you would expect with most EVs. The acceleration and power delivery are more linear making for a very relaxed driving experience. Also, to start the car all you need to do is get in and press the brake pedal. Slot the transmission stalk into D and you are ‘Ready’ to go. Apart from the driving modes (Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport) you get 3 levels of regen as well. Throttle response as expected is most dull in Eco+. But that said it works well in bumper to bumper city traffic. It suits my driving style perfectly. During the drive I switched from Eco+ to Eco and Normal frequently and Normal mode is good for cruising. I tried Sport mode on the Delhi Mumbai expressway and progress to 100 kph and above is rather brisk. It didn’t feel strained even at speeds of 120 kph and felt stable as well.
The regen modes work well too. When you start driving, you are in the heavy regen setting by default. This works well in traffic scenarios and you end up doing almost one pedal driving. The other two modes are pretty comfortable too. Regen levels are selected via the touchscreen, but I wish MG had given paddle shifters instead.
