MG Windsor EV Interior
Step inside the MG Windsor EV and the first thing you notice is the sense of space. The cabin design and is very minimalistic and you get an all black layout with rose gold elements in some places like the door pads and even the steering wheel. The only physical buttons are for climate control and you have some buttons on the steering. The flat bottom steering itself is nice to hold. The instrument cluster comprises of an 8.8 inch screen and that’s easy to read. The highlight however is a huge 15.6 inch screen in the centre for the infotainment. Heck its even bigger than some laptop screen. This screen is the most important feature out there. That literally everything of the car is controlled from here. Right from the ORVM adjustment to headlamp controls, sunroof operation and drive modes. It becomes quite a handful to use at times and I personally don’t have a liking to it. I prefer the physical buttons. You can however use the steering buttons to control the ORVMs but that too takes some attention and getting used to. The graphics however are fantastic, and everything is clear to the vision. The wiper controls are on the right side stalk while the left side has the transmission mode selector. Overall the cabin fit and finish feels premium with no corners cut.
The highlight of the Windsor EV is the space. The cabin is extremely airy. The front windshield is large and the panoramic sunroof is quite huge. The centre armrest is wide. You also get two cupholders on either side of the dashboard. Other features include wireless charger, PM2.5 air filter, 360-degree camera and connected car tech. MG has also joined forces with Jio for some of its OTT apps and games on the touchscreen. 256 colour ambient lighting and 9 speaker Infinity sound system as well along with a subwoofer. What the Windsor EV misses out is ADAS, a rear wiper and a spare wheel. You get a puncture repair kit instead.
The seats feature quilted leather and feel like sofas. Very very comfortable. Finished in quilted leather they are one of the nicest I’ve experienced in a while. The driver’s seat gets 6 way electric adjust. The rear seats can sit 3 comfortably due to the flat floor. The rear back rest can recline 135 degrees to give you what MG says the business class experience. Long drives will be enjoyable thanks to these seats. Also, all three rear occupants get 3-point seat belts. Leg room and knee room and more than sufficient but tall occupants will feel compromised for under thigh support. Medium and short heighted ones will not complain though.
The boot space of the Excite and Exclusive variants is 604 litres, and 579 litres on the Essence variant. The rear seat can be folded for additional space. You don’t get a powered or gesture controlled tailgate on the Windsor EV. This feature would have been nice to have considering how loaded this car is otherwise. The Windsor EV doesn’t come with a frunk.
