Step inside the MG Windsor EV and the first thing you notice is the sense of space.
MG has tasted good success with EVs in India. The ZS EV is a great all-round product and has done well in the market being an electric SUV. The Comet EV which we have as a long termer in the Throttle Blips garage is quite a unique solution for personal urban mobility. And now riding on the newly formed joint venture between MG and JSW Group, there are slew of new models to be expected in the future. And it starts with this, the MG Windsor EV. What’s unique about the Windsor is that is launched with a first of its kind Battery As A Service scheme (BAAS) but more on that later. Here are my first impressions after spending a day with MG’s latest driving around NCR.
MG Windsor EV Exterior
The MG Windsor EV is sold as the Wuling Cloud in other markets but gets the MG moniker in India. Unlike the ZS, the Windsor is a born EV so there won’t be an ICE version of this product. MG calls the Windsor a Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV) and at first glance it appears to be a mix of a hatch and an MPV in terms of styling. The front has a two level layout and enthusiasts will be reminded of the Fiat Multipla MPV which was quite an interesting and quirky looking MPV of its time. There are slim LED daytime running lights connected by a light bar on the top level with a big illuminated MG logo. The headlamps are located on the lower section. There is black horizontal trim between the headlamps with the Morris Garages lettering. With the headlamps located low, they would be the first to get damaged on frontal accident impact. The Windsor comes with 18-inch alloy wheels on the Exclusive and Essence variants. You also get flush door handles. What is funny though is that the front passenger door gets a keyhole, not the driver’s door. The ORVMs are finished in black and the roof rails are purely cosmetic. The rear features connected tail lamps and their design seemed a little similar to those on the Comet. There is Windsor lettering below the rear light bar and a roof mounted spoiler on the tail gate as well. The Windsor EV measures 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,677 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. There are four colours on offer: Pearl White, Clay Beige, Starburst Black and the Turquoise Green that you see in these pictures.
