Seven thousand kilometres later, the Comet has indeed grown on me. Range anxiety has left my thoughts and I have learnt how to plan my trips and keep the battery filled with enough juice. During this time, the car went for its first service as well. Read ahead to learn more about our journey with this quirky little electric hatchback.

The first service of the car was rather uneventful. Unlike your regular car, no change of engine oil, filters, etc was involved. However, MG recommends that users change the differential oil. With the dirty oil removed and fresh oil added, the car was given a wash and delivered straight to my office. During this service, MG also replaced the faulty steering wheel-mounted buttons. At rupees six thousand a unit, I am glad that the warranty took care of this expense.

Another advantage I found for electric cars is when carrying pets. I find Maya, our friendly little dog prefers the Comet over other cars. With the rear seats folded, she gets enough space to be comfortable. Moreover, I think the lack of an engine and the noise and vibrations associated with it, makes it easier on their sensitive ears. Maybe that is why she happily jumps on board every opportunity she gets to roam around in the car.

Now let us come to some bits about the car that could MG could have done better. Starting with the cup holders which are not deep enough. Sure, the placing of them is spot on, with the vent cooling my beverage but without the depth, the drink bottle bounces around every time a pothole is hit on the road. The wheel covers of the car, look great and also aid in achieving better aerodynamic efficiency but the access to the air-filling valve does not have enough clearance. This means every time I have to fill air up, they have to be removed. The TPMS also does not seem to be calibrated properly as I got know warning once I had a puncture on the driver-side rear tyre.

However, one place where the Comet shines is the interior quality and fit and finish of things inside. With the rain Gods smiling and showering water over the city of Mumbai, roads have disintegrated. Despite spending so much time driving on what essentially are non-existent roads, there is not a single squeak or rattle in the car. The stalks also stay stable and give you a reassuring click every time you indicate or switch the wipers on.
Thats is all there is to talk about in this report, stay tuned for the next one.
