Mercedes Benz India inaugurated a new production facility at their Chakan plant in Pune at the hands of Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Devendra Fadnavis. At the same event, Mercedes also announced local assembly of the GLA compact SUV from the new facility. Annual capacity at the Chakan plant has now gone up to 20,000 units. The GLA rolling out from Pune will have 40 percent local content while bodies will still be imported fully painted from Germany. Mercedes will only assemble the diesel model in India and the petrol variant will still be sold as a CBU.
