Mclaren Artura Powertrain & performance

The Artura features a 3.0 twin turbo V6 coupled to an electric motor with a 7.4KW/h battery pack. Combined, they put out 700 horses and 720 Nm of torque. It gets a claimed full electric range of 31 km too. 0 to 100 kph comes up in 3 seconds with a top speed of 330 kph. Push the start button and the car starts in electric mode. Push the D button and you move forward in silence. You see a ‘conditioning engine’ message on the instrument cluster. At this point you feel like you are driving just another EV. I quickly changed the drive mode to comfort and that’s when the V6 came to life. The motor sounds quite amazing for a V6 and its feels really easy to drive even at moderate speeds. The 8 speed dual clutch gearbox is quick in its shifts and before you know you are happily cruising down the road in 8th gear. Once we got to open desert roads, I shifted to Sport mode, and the Artura just shot forward pushing me into the seat. The power delivery is really something when both the engine and the electric motor go the full send. Downshifting with paddle shifters add more drama with the engine sounding even more orgasmic. With Dubai speed limits looming over my head, I really couldn’t give it the full beans but those bursts of acceleration were enough to make me realize what this machine is capable of.
