Maruti Suzuki who is by far, India’s largest car maker in India, has set another record and its no mean feat. The company has just achieved the 20 million car milestone in India. The third gen Swift, which is one of India’s most loved hatch backs rolled off the assembly line as the 20 millionth car.
India is now the second country after Japan to reach this milestone. Parent company Suzuki took 45 years and 9 months to reach the milestone, while Maruti has broken the record by achieving the same in 34 years and 5 months. Maruti Suzuki had first begun production in December 1983
Stats reveal that the Alto is the most produced model with approx 3.17 million units followed by 2.91 million units of the Maruti 800.
Currently production of Maruti Suzuki cars takes place at three plants: Guragon, Manesar and Gujarat. A total of 16 models are manufactured across the three plants. Maruti Suzuki also exports cars to countries and regions such as Europe, Japan, Asia, Africa & Latin America.
