Mahindra Thar Roxx Ride & Handling
As mentioned above, the Roxx is based on a Gen 4 body on frame chassis, whereas the 3-door was on Gen 3. The Gen 4 frame is stiffer, lighter, gets new multi-link suspension system with Watt’s linkage and new suspension mountings. Another major change is that the Roxx gets a Electronic Power Steering (EPS) compared to hydraulic unit on the 3-Door. It feels so light and easy to use that at times you forget that you are driving a Thar. This new suspension setup puts the Thar Roxx ride quality in a different league. There is simply no comparison with its 3 door sibling. Sure there is some vertical movement but overall the Thar Roxx feels well settled. It wont give you nasty scares going over undulations. Most of the owners won’t really be taking it off the tarmac anyways and the Thar Roxx will mostly see urban city commute and mall outings.
Coming to the handling, we put the Roxx through some nice twisty section in the outskirts of Kochi and we were impressed by the way Roxx performed. The handling feels more poised like the Scorpio Nor XUV7OO. There is noticeable body roll, but for a body on frame SUV, things are well sorted. Take the Roxx to triple digits and you don’t lose any confidence anymore. The all terrain MRF rubber offers good grip throughout and with the high ground clearance you don’t feel any undulations or potholes that you encounter while driving.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Verdict
Mahindra has now got into the habit of producing winners and the Roxx is no exception. With the Roxx priced aggressively at Rs 12.99L for theMX1 (RWD) and top end AX7L (RWD) comes at Rs 20.49L, while Mahindra is yet to announce prices for 4×4 variants.
To sum it up, Thar Roxx is not a 5-Door version but a new product altogether. There will be an entire new segment of buyers to the Thar party. The target audience has widened from a second car at home to the Thar in this avtaar being the primary car or may be the only car at home and why not? It has all the Thar DNA packed into a more rounded package. cIt can be a full fledged off-roader and highway mile muncher at the same time and comes with all the creature comforts you can think of. This was not what we expected when the 5 door Thar was first announced. Like the 3-Door Thar, there are endless possibilities to modify the Roxx as well. Infact we predict parts and accessories to already be ready even before deliveries begin. the review.
There is no doubt that the Thar Roxx is another blockbuster from the Mahindra stable. Test drives begin from September 14, bookings from October 03 and deliveries from Dussehra onwards. And we already predict a repeat of what we saw in 2020 when the new gen 3 door Thar was launched. The same frenzy and long waiting periods.
