I drove back to Mumbai from Pune and the Scorpio-N cruises effortlessly on the highway.
Verdict
Prices for the Mahindra Scorpio-N start from Rs. 11.99 lakh ex showroom which is aggressive and goes up to Rs.19.49 lakh for the Z8 L diesel manual. Prices for the automatic and 4×4 have not been revealed yet and I expect them to be a couple of lakhs more overall. While that will be pricey, there’s a lot you get for the money. The Scorpio has grown more premium and now comes loaded with a host of features. The interior is especially more plush and feels from a segment above. There is a strong pair of engines with two gearboxes and you get 4×4 as well, something that the Tata Safari lost out on in the new generation. The body on frame construction makes it very abuse friendly, and despite it becoming more classy in terms of looks, it still remains intimidating on the road. Mahindra has nailed it in every way, and it is all set be another blockbuster after the Thar and the XUV700. I can already see a long waiting list. The WANT factor is just too much for this one.
