Mahindra has launched a new entry-level XUV500 in the W3 trim. The previous entry-level XUV500 was called the W4 and was discontinued after the introduction of the facelifted version last year in April.

The new W3 trim variant retains the old powertrain comprising of a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel motor mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox mobilising 155 horses and 360 torques. However, the car sees a complete visual overhaul. While the front end is very similar to the higher variants, it is devoid of LED DRLs, fog lamps and chrome accents on the front grille.

Overall, the exterior is set to lose not only visual elements such as black body cladding and chrome inserts but functional elements such as the rear windshield washer and wiper too. The rather stylish 17-inch alloys have been replaced by black steelies sans hubcaps.

The cabin too has been similarly humbled, with black hard-touch surfaces and matching fabric seats. The occupants shall also miss out on an audio system.

However, the car is still comfortable and convenient as it retains front and rear air conditioning, power windows for both front and rear seats, electrically adjustable ORVMs, projector lamps and central locking.

At Rs.12.28 lakh ex-showroom price, the XUV500 W3 is just shy of the entry level Tata Harrier which retails at Rs.12.70 lakh. Currently, Mahindra is working on the next gen XUV500 which is expected to hit the roads sometime in 2020.
