Spy shots have revealed that Mahindra’s popular SUV, the Bolero has been upgraded to comply with the new safety and emission norms.
Recently, a Bolero equipped with ABS was spotted at a dealership. A new series of photos have revealed that the car will now have a driver’s side airbag and rear parking sensors.
The Bolero has had to incorporate the steering wheel from the TUV300 as the old wheel does not have provision for airbags. By the new mandate that will be enforced in July 2019, the car will also have safety features like seat belt reminder for both driver and passenger, speed alerts and rear parking sensors.
As per the new norms, the Bolero will see changes in the front and side crash structure and later get a BS-VI compliant engine.
However, not many changes are seen on the inside and outside in terms of design. The interior carries the same dual tone theme complete with a faux wood finish. Electronics in the car comprise of a digital instrument cluster and a single DIN audio system. The powertrain consists of a 1.5- litre mHawkD70 diesel unit putting 70 hp and 195 Nm of torque.
Bolero has been a cash cow for Mahindra in the past, but sales have dwindled slightly off late. Mahindra expects to ride the wave of success it has created in the past by updating the Bolero and keeping the name alive.
