Mercedes-Benz India has rolled the locally assembled New S-Class at a price of Rs. 1.57 crore for the S350d diesel and Rs. 1.62 crore for the S450 4 Matic petrol. The makes the diesel Rs. 60 lakh and the petrol version Rs. 55 lakh cheaper then the CBUs launched earlier this year.
The locally assembled S-Class skips the AMG line trim and gets sedately styled bumpers and multispoke 19 inch alloy wheels. On the interior, it gets a 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented OLED touchscreen with Mercedes-Benz’ latest MBUX infotainment system, 64-colour active ambient lighting, electronically adjustable front and rear seats with massage function for the rear and a 3D Burmester Sound system. (The CBU came with a 4D Burmester).
The locally assembled diesel model now sports the S350d badge as opposed to the S400d CBU. It is powered by a 3,0 litre diesel engine putting out 286 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. The petrol is identical to the import version with a 3 litre engine putting out 367 hp and 500 Nm of torque. While the diesel is rear wheel drive, the petrol comes with the 4Matic al wheel drive system. Both engines come mated to a 9 speed automatic gearbox. The S Class also loses the four wheel steering system from the CBU versions.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class rivals the BMW 7-Series and the Audi A8 L in the Indian market.
