Land Rover has launched the new Discovery Sport in India at a starting price of Rs. 46.10 lakh ex showroom Mumbai. The Discovery Sport replaces the Freelander 2 in the Land Rover model line up in India.
The Discovery Sport is based on the Evoque platform but is 9 inches longer. The cabin also is more spacious and comes with more headroom. It is also available in a 5+2 seating configuration. It gets a 8 inch touch screen infotainment system. Features across variants include leather upholstery and steering wheel, 17 speaker Meridian sound system, dual zone climate control, rear seat entertainment package, Park Assist, fixed panoramic sunroof and 18 inch alloy wheels (HSE Luxury only).
Power comes from a 2.2 litre four cylinder turbo diesel engine that will be available in two states of tune; TD4 with 148 bhp and 400 Nm torque on the S, SE and HSE models and 187 bhp with 420 Nm torque that will be available only on the top end HSE Luxury model. The engine is mated to a 9 speed automatic gearbox. The Discovery Sport gets Land Rover’s Terrain Response system and water wading depth is 600 mm. It also features Hill Descent Control (HDC), Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard. Safety features include 7 airbags, ABS and Electronic Traction Control.
Land Rover is offering a standard 3 year or 1 lakh kms warranty and a complimentary 3 year standard service pack with the Discovery Sport.
The Discovery Sport is locally assembled at the Land Rover facility in Pune. It will rival the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60 in India.
