Land Rover, the English brand known to build some of the best SUVs money can buy, will soon be offering a new product in India. The company will be launching the Defender P400e soon. This plug-in hybrid model of the car can now be booked by customers. The first plug-in hybrid by Jaguar Land Rover India will be delivered to its new homes from Q1 of FY 2021-22. Customers can only choose between the SE, HSE, X-Dynamic HSE and HSE grades of the 110 body style to obtain this lovely engine.
The plug-in hyrbid version of the Defender, dubbed the P400e will come with a 2-litre Ingenium petrol engine paired with a 105 kW electric motor. The result is a combined output of around 398 hp and 640 Nm of twist. This implies that the Defender will take around 5.6 seconds to reach 100 kmph. The car will also get a top speed of 209 kmph. However, being a hybrid, the car would not be dependent on a power supply to fill its batteries with enough juice.
Powering the electric motor will be a 19.2 kWh hour battery pack. This battery pack can be charged in multiple ways. It can be plugged into any 15 Ampere socket available at your office or residence. Additionally, Land Rover will also give a complimentary 7.4 kW AC wall box charger to fill up its batteries with juice rather quickly.
Rohit Suri, President & Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India said, “We are extremely proud to introduce our first Plug-In Hybrid, the New Defender P400e in India, a vehicle that perfectly balances performance with efficiency, while retaining Land Rover’s legendary off-road capability. This also reaffirms our commitment to the introduction of electrified vehicles across the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio, after we had opened bookings for Jaguar I-PACE in November 2020.”
