Lamborghini has said that it has not yet taken a decision on whether to put the Urus into production.

During an interview with Autoblog, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that they could look at an SUV if they decide to add a new model their existing line up, reason being “this is a growing segment, a more emotional segment, a segment which is very well-distributed in terms of volumes all over the planet.”

If Lamborghini does go ahead with its SUV plans, it could be called the Urus which was the name they had given to an SUV concept unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2012. Mr Winkelmann added that the SUV could get a hybrid powertrain.

Reports last year had suggested that the Urus could be made in Slovakia and would get a hybrid V8 power plant putting out around 680 horsepower. It could be based on the second generation Q7 and get styling cues from the from the 2012 concept.

Lamborghini’s first SUV was the legendary LM002 which is no longer in production.
