Acquiring more of its elder siblings’ hard-core off-roading characteristics, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk has been launched in India. The Trailhawk is positioned above 2L diesel Compass Limited Plus 4×4 and commands a premium of Rs. 3.7 lakh over the same.
The premium is justified because of multiple reasons such as BS-6 compliance and the availability of a diesel automatic combination. However, the most noteworthy feature is the refinement in off-roading capabilities that contribute to the very apt ‘Trail Rated’ badge. The car gets 30mm of increased ground clearance that improves the approach, break over, and departure angles very significantly. There is a massive improvement of 510mm in the water wading depth of the car. The car gets a 9-speed automatic torque converter transmission that also features a low range gearbox with hill descent control and several driving modes such as Rock, Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud, the latter four of which are available on the standard car also.
In terms of features, the car gets an 8.4-inch touch enabled infotainment system with navigation and smartphone connectivity, auto climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and auto Start-Stop function. However, it misses convenience such as powered driver seat, automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers. The panoramic sunroof is also an optional extra.
In terms of safety, the car gets 6 Airbags, ABS, ESC, traction control, hill start assist, rollover mitigation, electronic parking brakes and rear parking assistance by way of a camera and sensors.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is priced at Rs. 26.8 lakh (ex-showroom) and appeals to a broad customer base as an affordable yet potent off-roader. It can be booked at a token amount of Rs. 50,000.
