The new Hyundai Kona SUV has been officially revealed for the international markets. It will sit below the Tucson in Hyundai’s model line up.
Hyundai Kona Exterior
The Hyundai Kona features the company’s new design language and gives a glimpse as to how future Hyundai cars will look like. The front gets slim headlamps with LED DRLs integrated inside. The large front bumper has features a large front grille along with fog lights mounted into aluminium housings. The rear features LED tail lamps along with a rear spoiler. The rear bumper gets wap around body cladding, that is also present along the side and the wheel arches of the SUV. The Kona is 4,165mm long and 1,800mm wide, with a height of 1,550mm. Wheelbase stands at 2,600 mm. The Konda has 170 mm of ground clearance.
Hyundai Kona Engine Specifications
The Hyundai Kona will initially come with two petrol engine options. There is a 1.0 litre T-GDI with a six-speed manual transmission and a 1.6 litre T-GDI with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive. The 1.0L motor develops 119.6 horsepower and 172 Nm torque at 1,500-4,000rpm, and goes from 0 to 100 kph in 12 seconds,having a top speed of 180kph. The 1.6 litre petrol unit has 176 horsepower with 264 Nm of torque at 1,500-4,000rpm. It can do the 0-100 kph sprint in 7.9 seconds, with a top speed of 204kph. A 1.6 diesel engine is expected to follow in 2018.
Hyundai Kona Interior and Features
On the interior, the Kona will feature a 5.0-inch TFT screen as standard, with an 8 inch touch screen available as an option. Other features include a Display Audio system with connected services, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay etc. A wireless smartphone charger will be offered as an option. In a first for Hyundai, the Kona will get a heads up display. An eight speaker Krell sound system is also part of the options list.
The Kona is expected to be revealed for the India market at the Auto Expo 2018 next year.
