Korean automaker Hyundai had revealed its plans to bring an electric SUV to India. In a follow-up, some key details of the SUV, christened the Kona, have been revealed.

The Kona, which will be launched on 9 July 2019, will be brought to India as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit, with the objective of keeping costs low. However, the car will contain some local components too. It is expected to give an electric range of 300km, coming from a 39 kWh / 136 hp permanent magnet synchronous motor sending power to the front wheels. Internationally, the car also retails with a more powerful 64 kWh / 204 hp motor, but it shan’t make it to the Indian shores.

The car will come with a charging cable for domestic use and charging stations will be installed at Hyundai dealerships as well. The car is expected to retail in the INR 25 lakh (ex-showroom) price bracket and shall compete against the likes of the MG eZS SUV that is slated to launch this December.
