Honda Civic set for India comeback. Showcased at Auto Expo 2018
The Honda Civic is all set to make a comeback to India and the 10th gen model was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018.
The Honda Civic was sold in India between 2006 and 2013 but was discontinued due to low sales towards the end. Honda has confirmed that the Civic will be relaunched in India before the end of the current financial year. We could however get the facelift version of the 10th gen car and a launch should be expected before March 2019.
The Civic in its 10th gen has grown a lot over what we had in India. The car has more of a fastback styling than outright sedan. The bonnet is long with large swooping headlamps. The front grille gets the now trademark Honda chrome treatment. Other features include 17 inch alloy wheels and cameras in the ORVMs. The rear features large tail lamps that clamp onto the boot and there is a subtle lip spoiler as well. The interior is quite conventional and not awe inspiring like the earlier generation that we had in India. There is a touch screen on the centre console for the infotainment system and an engine start/stop button on the right hand side of the steering. The instrument cluster is full digital. The three spoke multifunction steering wheel gets paddle shifters as well. Seats are low like the older car and surprisingly there are no rear AC vents.
The Civc will come with a 1.8 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and for the first time it will also get a 1.6 litre i-Dtec diesel motor that will also been seen in the CR-V. Transmission options will include both, manual and automatic gearboxes.
The Civic will rival the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis and the Skoda Octavia in India.
