Images of a special edition Ford EcoSport have been doing rounds in the market, suggesting an impending launch after one such car was found parked in a dealer’s stockyard.
The Thunder Edition is a visually upgraded version of Ford’s popular compact SUV. The new car wears pronounced satin black accents to impart a more menacing stance to the car. Upfront, the bonnet and the corners of the bumper feature smart satin black decals that continue all the way around the car. The headlamps have been blacked out, and the foglamp housing that was earlier indiscernible is now black, reminiscent of beautiful eyes that wear kohl.
Towards the rear, the spare wheel cover has been blacked out making the mountain design moulding more apparent. The look is completed by the Thunder badging on the tailgate. The roof, roof rails, ORVMs and pillars have also been blackened out.
Moving inside, we can expect the car to wear a dual tone interior, the probable options being black-beige and a bolder black-orange. Instrumentation remains the same as is on a regular EcoSport. The wheels are blacked out alloys, comprising of spokes formed by the conjunction of five geometric U like shapes.
Not much is known about the powertrain options, but it is likely that the Thunder will be based on the Titanium variant. The EcoSport is available in three engine options. The first is a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol setup making 123 PS / 150 Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The third is a 1.5-litre diesel making 100 PS / 205 Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The EcoSport Thunder edition will likely position itself below the EcoSport S that retails for INR 11,38,400 (petrol) and INR 11,90,400(diesel).
