Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles recently announced their intent of collaborating with French automaker Groupe Renault, in a 50-50 merger.
The merger, if it materialises, shall bring Fiat, Dodge, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, Abarth and Renault under one umbrella. Renault will also carry its associations with Nissan and Mitsubishi to this collaboration.
The merger is pivoted around electrification and autonomous driving car technology, in which FCA has been conspicuously absent. They plan to leverage Renault’s expertise in this field in exchange for expanding the market in America.
The merger is synergistic in that both companies have agreed not to shut down factories or lay off employees, but align their vision towards a common goal.
