Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most recognizable automotive silhouettes ever made, has finally reached its end of life. The bug inspired design, that saw love and hate in equal measure saw a production of 3 generations spanning across 81 years.
A manifestation of Adolf Hitler’s vision for Germany, the Beetle sold over 23 million samples since its inception, a feat, very few other vehicles can boast of.
The reason for Volkswagen Beetle is being touted as claustrophobic design in an age where space and openness are of utmost importance to any buyer. However, Volkswagen begs to differ, with plans of a ‘revival’ in an all-electric powertrain.
At the same time, Volkswagen also plans to revive other iconic designs, such as the Microbus and the camper van in all-electric formats. As curtains draw over an icon’s era of retro-style and charming rebellion, let us look back in reminiscence:
