It is always an occasion when a new manufacturer enters the Indian car scene. And this one has been a long wait but finally French Car maker Citroen is stepping on Indian soil with, you guessed it, an SUV. The Citroen C5 Aircross is the car maker’s first offering for India and will compete in the premium SUV space, which sees the likes of the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson. A lot is riding on this product as it will be the base for building the brand in our country. So will the C5 Aircross start a French Revolution? Let’s dig deep to find out.
Citroen C5 Aircross Exterior
The design of the Citroen C5 Aircross stays true to the Citroen legacy. Very unique and very French. The quirky and bold front end is unlike anything you’ve seen on an SUV in the Indian market. The bonnet is high and flat and the way the Citroen logo is integrated with the strip that also houses the daytime running LEDs looks quite cool and funky. Similarly, the headlamps are integrated into the frame of the two slat front grille. The front bumper features faux air intakes and sharp cuts on either side. Moving on to the side view, there is protective body cladding on the bottom of the doors and the wheel arches, front doors get dummy air intakes similar to those seen on the front bumper, there are sporty looking diamond cut 18 inch alloy wheels, the C shaped chrome motif on the window line looks classy and the blacked out pillars give a floating roof effect. The rear gets a bulge on the tail gate and the wrap around tail lamps feature four rectangular 3D LED elements in each unit. There is a subtle roof spoiler and the two tone rear bumper faux air scoops on either side of the tail gate. The bottom half features fog lamps and faux chrome exhaust tips. Dimensions wise, the C5 Aircross has a 4500 mm length, 2099 mm width, 1710 mm height with a wheelbase of 2730 mm. It isn’t tall when compared to typical SUVs and that gives it more of a crossover stance. It is however pretty wide though. There are four exterior paint shades on offer with the option of a dual tone roof as well. The C5 Aircross will come in two variants; Feel and Shine. The test car for this review was the Feel variant of the SUV. To sum up the exterior, the styling and design is really unique and will be a stand out in the sea of SUVs out there on the road.
