BMW India has commenced local production of the all new third gen X3 SUV at the car maker’s Chennai plant. The new X3 will be launched in India on April 19, 2018.
The third generation X3 is 55 kg lighter than its predecessor. While overall size is almost the same as the old car, it now gets a larger wheelbase resulting in more space inside the cabin. It gets a larger kidney grille up front, new bumpers at the front and rear and new design headlamps and tail lamps.
The new X3 is expected to come with a 2.0 litre twin turbo diesel engine developing 190 horsepower and a 2.0 litre petrol motor putting out 248 horses. The bigger 3.0 V6 diesel with 265 horsepower is expecting come in the m Sport variant. All models of the X3 will get the XDrive four wheel drive system and an eight speed automatic gearbox.
Features include touch and gesture control for the iDrive infotainment system, heads up display and 360 degree cameras depending on the variants.
The new BMW X3 will rival the Mercedes-Benz GLC, new Audi Q5, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Lexus NX300h and the Volvo XC60 in the Indian market.
