German car maker showcased the Passat GTE Plug In hybrid at the Auto Expo 2016. The company is looking to launch the car in India along side the new Passat.
The Passat GTE gets power from a specially tuned 1.4 TSI petrol engine that develops 164 bhp. This is combined with a 113 bhp electric motor and the car has a total power output of 215 bhp. The powertrain totally makes 330 Nm of torque. The Passat GTE comes with a 6 speed DSG gearbox.
The Passat GTE comes with four driving modes: E-mode, Hybrid, Battery Charge and GTE. The car can run upto 50 km in all electric mode. In the performance GTE mode, it activates both the petrol engine and the electric motor that propels the car from 0 to 100 kph in 7.6 seconds. Volkswagen claims a total range of upto 1000 kms from the Passat GTE. In terms of design the Passat GTE gets a blue strip that runs across the front end to end including the headlamps. This distinguishes the GTE from other Passat models. There is a blue GTE badge on the triple chrome slat grille and the car come with LED headlamps. The front bumper also gets a a C shaped LED strip on either side. Dynamic Light Assist is available as an option where you can drive on high beam without affecting the approaching traffic. The Passat GTE gets exclusive ‘Montpellier’ 17-inch alloy wheels as standard.
