After a long wait, the legendary Jeep is finally launching in India. The company has announced that it will launch the brand in India on 31st August and 1st September 2016. The model line up for India includes the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. The Jeep models were showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi earlier. The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with bi xenon headlamps with integrated day time running lamps. The rear gets large LED tail lamps, aerodynamic rear spoiler and large rear wind shield for better visibility. The Limited variant comes shod with 18 inch alloy wheels, while the Summit comes with 20 inch alloys. The Grand Cherokee SRT is the performance version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and part of the Street and Racing Technology portfolio. It gets distinctive headlights with a blacked out facia and gloss black front grille. It is longer and wider than the stock model but sits shorter in height. It comes equipped with stiffer springs, anti roll bars and cambered wheels at the front and the rear. It is shod with 20 inch “Goliath” polished aluminium alloy wheels with wider tyres.
The Grand Cherokee is powered by a 3.0L CRD Turbo V6 Diesel engine that develops 240 horsepower and 570Nm of max torque. The Grand Cherokee Limited is equipped with Quadra Trac II and the Grand Cherokee Summit gets the Quadra Drive II traction control for optimum 4×4 performance. A monster of a 6.4 litre HEMI V8 powers the Grand Cherokee SRT. This motor develops 470 horsepower and is mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox. It features a Quadra-Trac Active On-Demand 4WD system. It can go to a top speed of 258 kph and also comes with Launch Control. Stopping powere comes from a Brembo high performance braking system. The SRT also comes with fuel saving technology.The Wrangler sold in India will be the five door version that will come with a removable hardtop and doors. It features 17 inch alloy wheels. On the interior you get washable interiors. Other features include lockable storage space, leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, touch screen infotainment system, navigation and Alpine sound system.
The Wrangler is powered by a 2.8 litre 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine that develops 197 bhp. The engine is mated to a 5 speed automatic gearbox and comes with Command-Trac Shift-On-The-Fly 4WD system. Hill Start Assist (HAS) and Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) are also included. Safety features of the Wrangler include multi stage front airbags, Electronic Stability Control and ABS with all round discs.
The Jeep models will be sold in India as fully imported CBUs. Prices will be announced on launch day
