BMW rolls out 50,000th ‘Made in India’ car
German car maker BMW has rolled out the 50,000th ‘Made in India’ car off the assembly line at the company’s plant in Chennai. The car is a new 7 Series that was launched in India in February at the Auto Expo 2016.
Dr. Jochen Stallkamp, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai said, “It is with great pride that we are rolling-out the 50,000th car locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai. Each and every BMW that is locally produced is of the same international standards as anywhere else in the world and brings a smile on the faces of our customers. Highly skilled employees, advanced manufacturing processes along with state-of-the-art machinery and technology provide all the necessary ingredients to achieve these tough standards. We are proud of this achievement and look forward to many such milestones in the future.”
The BMW Plant at Chennai started operations on March 29, 2007. Upto eight car models are locally produced on two assembly lines at BMW Plant Chennai. Presently, the BMW 1 Series, the 3 Series, the 3 Series Gran Turismo, the 5 Series, the 7 Series, the X1, the X3 and the X5 are locally produced at the Chennai Plant. Supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative, localisation level at the Chennai plant has been increased to 50 percent.
