Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat confirmed
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat has been confirmed by Jeep CEO Mike Manley. He said that the company will make the model for the American market from July 2017.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat will sport that naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8 engine that does duty in the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat models. While the engine makes 717 horsepower and 881 Nm of maximum torque, it is not known if the Grand Cherokee Hellcat will sport the same power figures.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat will easily outdo the company’s current fastest SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. The latter goes from 0 to 100 kph in 5.1 seconds and has a top speed of 257 kph. Other technical specifications should be revealed in due course of time. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat is expected to get more bigger and powerful brakes and performance focussed chassis set up. The name Grand Cherokee Trackhawk could be given the SUV as well.
Fiat Chrysler Group showcased the Jeep lineup of vehicles in India at the Auto Expo 2016 in February earlier this year. The range of SUVs will launch later this year. The Jeep models for India include the legendary Wrangler in its four door guise, the Grand Cherokee which is luxury focussed and the range topping Grand Cherokee SRT. While the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee will come with diesel engines, the SRT will sport a 6.4 litre V8 petrol engine. The smaller Jeep Renegade will follow later.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat will sit at the top of the heap in the Jeep model range once it goes on sale. It will rival the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and The Range Rover Sport SVR, both of which are high performance SUVs.
