New Mercedes-Benz long wheelbase E-Class revealed
Photos of the long wheelbase new Mercedes E-Class have surfaced online. Mercedes had unveiled the new E-Class at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2016. The new car is based on the MRA platform and is lighter than the outgoing car.
Mercedes had revealed plans to launch the new E-Class in six different body style including a long wheelbase and a Maybach variant. The long wheel base models are made only for select markets, China being one of the most important ones.
The wheelbase of the car is longer by 140 mm than the standard car at 3,079 mm. The cars seen in these photos are the E 300 L and E 200 Lwhere ‘L’ stands for long wheelbase. The car focuses on more space for the rear passengers. The S-Class derived interior and dashboard is expected to be the same in the longer E with a few addons. Mechanically it is expected to share engines with the standard E-Class. The E-Class L version is set to be built in China by the Beijing-Benz joint venture and is expected to break cover at the Beijing Motor Show later this year.
Mercedes-Benz had revealed to Autocar India magazine that it plans to launch the long wheelbase E-Class in India along side the standard car. The new E-Class is expected in India early next year.
