The GLS is the facelifted version of the GL SUV.
After numerous online leaks, Mercedes-Benz has officially taken the wraps off the 2017 GLS SUV. The GLS is essentially the facelifted GL which now gets the company’s new nomenclature.
The exterior gets styling updates in tune with the Merc’s new design language. There are new front and rear bumpers, a larger twin slat front grille along with new headlamps with integrated DRLs and tail lamps, which get different graphics and new design alloy wheels.
Coming to the interior, significant changes include a free standing 8 inch tab like screen for the infotainment system along with touch pad, three spoke steering wheel. The GLS will also be offered with an air ionization system as an option.
The GLS will come with a variety of engine options. A V8 bi turbo in the GLS550 developing 449 bhp and 699 Nm torque, 3.0 litre V6 bi turbo in the GLS450 putting out 362 bhp and 500 Nm torque. There will also be a top of the line GLS63 with 577 bhp and 760 Nm torque. There is also a diesel variant in the form of the GLS350d which makes 255 bhp and 616 Nm torque from a V6 turbo diesel engine. This will be that variant that will most likely make its way to India. All models get the 4 MATIC all wheel drive system. Except the GLS 63, all other engine will be mated to a nine speed automatic gearbox.
Other options include a night vision system to go with the optional LED Intelligent Light System and the MAGIC VISION CONTROL which enhances visibility thanks to the heated adaptive windscreen wiper system.
