Mercedes Benz S600 Guard India launch on May 21, 2015
Mercedes Benz India will be launching the armoured variant of the its S-Class, the S600 Guard in India on 21st May 2015.
While the car may look like a standard S600, it comes with the high level of armoured protection. The S 600 Guard offers VR9-level ballistics protection to its occupants. This means that the car can withstand 7.62x51mm rifle rounds from various angles on the cars body panels. It comes with protective components milled from special steel in various cavities between the body structure and outer shell. It uses heat-resistant synthetic fibres to protect occupants from projectiles.
The windows of the car feature thick laminated glass with polycarbonate coating which provide better ballistic protection. The underbody of the S 600 Guard is also armoured to protect occupants from explosives. Other equipment includes opaque roller blinds in the rear, panic alarm system, fire extinguisher with automatic activation, heated windshield and windows, emergency fresh air system to protect occupants from smoke or gases, hydraulic power for side windows, gimbal LED reading lamps cooling compartment in the rear.
The S600 Guard is powered by a 6.0 litre V12 petrol engine that puts out 530 bhp and 830 Nm torque. Top speed is restricted to 210 kph. The engine is mated to a 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox
Continuing its launch plans for 2015, Mercedes will follow up the S600 Guard with the S63 AMG launch later this year.
