Volvo Car India organised an all women drive on 19 May 2019. Volvo has taken this platform to promote gender equality and women’s safety while driving.
The Swedish motor, which arguably makes some of the most reliable automobiles in the world purports that women have different anatomy to men, due to which it is necessary for vehicle design to account for those differences.
This has led to the development of crash dummies that are designed around the female body, going so far to incorporate pregnancy too. All seats are ergonomically designed with WHIPS (whiplash protection system) and SIPS (Side impact protection system) that work in conjunction with the respective airbags to reduce the overall impact of a collision by at least 50%.
Volvo has made the data collated over 40 years and approximately 40,000 crash investigations public and intends to distribute the dummies to other automotive manufacturers so that they may incorporate more of human-centric safety elements in their design.
