It is a given that most Indians love their car back seats and a majority of the people like to be chauffeured around be it in a hatch or a luxury car. And that’s why rear space is of utmost importance if you are buying a luxury car. Mercedes pulled a rabbit out its hat a couple of years ago when they launched the LWB E-Class especially re-engineered for our right hand drive market. And the gamble paid off and how. The Bavarians on the other hand have launched the 6-Series Gran Turismo or GT instead of stretching the 5-Series. The 6GT sits between the 5 and 7 Series and comes with more space at the rear and a bigger boot. Although the 6 –Series moniker is nothing new India as it was sold here in two door coupe and convertible guises, the GT brings in a whole new body form replacing the 5GT in our market. We drive the BMW 6GT 630d in the range topping M-Sport trim to find out more.
BMW 6GT 630d Exterior
The BMW 6GT is a pretty long car, 150 mm longer that the 5-Series sedan and wheelbase stands at 3070 mm. It is wider and taller than the 5 too. Up front you get a wide kidney grille that merges with the sleek LED headlamps. The M Sport gets a sporty front bumper with large air dams. The side view reveals the fast back design and while opinions are divided on the styling, I quite like it especially when compared to the odd ball looking 5 GT. There is M badging on the front fenders and the 19-inch alloy wheels look fab. The wheel arches are more pronounced and the side skirts add character. The sloping roofline integrates nicely into the boot and it doesn’t look stubby at all. In fact, it looks well proportioned. It also gets frameless doors that look super cool. The rear gets large wrap around tail lamps, a retractable boot spoiler and black cladding on the rear bumper along with stylish twin exhausts.
