Volvo Cars has announced plans to locally assemble plug-in hybrid cars in India from 2019. The first model to go into local assembly at the Bengaluru plant will be the XC90 T8.
The XC90 T8 is available in Inscription and Excellence variants in India and are sold as CBUs in India currently. Both variants will go into local assembly by the end of year 2019. Volvo has also announced that will launch a range of plug-in hybrid models in India in the next three years.
The XC90 T8 is powered by a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol engine that develops 320 horsepower combined with an electric motor that puts out 87 horses. Total power output is 407 horsepower and with 400 Nm of torque. Power is channeled to all four wheels via an eight speed automatic gearbox. While the petrol engine powers the front wheels, the electric motor powers the rear wheels. Volvo claims a 0 to 100 kph timing of 5.8 seconds and all all electric range of 40 kms.
Equipment on the Excellence trim includes a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders located in the centre console, hand made crystal glasses and gear knob by the Swedish glass design company, Orrefors and folding tables. It also comes with a 1400W Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 20 speakers. On the exterior the T8 gets 21 inch alloys and chrome trims.
The XC90 T8 is currently priced at Rs. 96.65 lakh for the Inscription and Rs. 1.31 crore for the Excellence trim ( ex showroom)
