Hyundai India will officially announce the name of the new hatchback on October 4, 2018. The new car will be officially launched later in the same month during the festive season.

The new car will be expected to be called the Santro marking a return of the iconic name that Hyundai established itself in India with. However the Santro name will most likely come with a suffix similar to the ‘Xing’ name that the first gen facelift car received.

Hyundai will be launching a contest on August 16 to invite suggestions for the model’s full name.

The new Hyundai hatchback will replace the Eon in the car maker’s India lineup. Spy pictures of the new hatch have surfaced with the test mules being spotted in Chennai and Delhi. Known internally as the ‘Hyundai family design concept’, it is expected to be very spacious and come with lots of features that now Hyundai’s are known for.

The new car is expected to be powered by an upgraded version of the original Santro Xing’s 1.1 litre engine. A BS VI emission norms compliant engine is also being worked on to be ready by the year 2020. The new Santro will also be the first Hyundai to come with the option of an automated manual transmission that will be based on a five speed gearbox.

The upcoming hatch once launched, will rival the Maruti Alto K10 and the Tata Tiago in the Indian market.
