2016 Mitsubishi Outlander unveiled
Mitsubishi has unveiled the 2016 Outlander at the New York Motor Show. The Outlander used to be on sale in India for quite some time but was eventually discontinued due to poor sales. This new model has been launched for the international markets.
The new model gets an all new front end. There is a new bumper with a new twin slat grille finished in chrome. The headlamps get DRLs and there are LED tail lamps as well. The rear also gets a new bumper with black cladding and a skid plate. Additionally, the new Outlander gets new 18 inch alloy wheels.
On the interior, it gets a new redesigned steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, new interior trims and rear folding seat. Safety features include Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Mitsubishi has made improvements to the chassis too. This includes increased body and suspension structural rigidity, redesigned suspension and Electric Power Steering, noise-isolating windshield and rear door glass, more sound insulation throughout the vehicle, dynamic front suspension and rear differential dampers, improved weather stripping and engine compartment trim. There is also a new CVT automatic gearbox which Mitsubishi says offers improved acceleration, performance, shift feel and torque delivery.
Mechanically the Outlander will continue to be offered with a 2.4 litre and 3.0 petrol engine in the U.S.A. There is no official word if Mitsubishi will reintroduce the Outlander in India but if it does launch again, Mitsubishi should consider bringing the 2.2 litre 4 cylinder diesel motor that is offered in some international markets.
