2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Interior
Step inside and the interior will just blow you away. Compared to the outgoing W205, this is in a totally different dimension. The ‘Baby S” tagline echos more strongly here as you will be hard pressed to think whether you are seated in a C or the S. The dashboard layout is neat and features a stripe like design, something very unique. The 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster looks sharp and classy and the steering wheel looks similar to other Mercedes cars of today. It features touch and swipe for most functions and gets electric adjust as well. What I totally love is the 11.9 inch vertical iPad style infotainment screen which is straight out of the S-Class. It is even tilted at an angle towards the driver. Everything is controlled from here. The display is crisp and while it is easy to you, it takes a while to explore all functions. The climate control is also operated via this screen. Speaking of aircon, the C-Class gets circular AC vents as opposed to slim ones on the S-Class. I loved the AC vents design and ambient lighting is one of Mercedes’ speciality . You also get fingerprint authentication where you can load your personal driving profile, all with the press of a button. Also the C-Class is the first model to get the latest MBUX: NTG7 after the S-Class and the Maybach. It features 3D maps in navigation, natural voice recognition and wireless smartphone integration amongst other things. Then you have the Mercedes Me app which gives you a host of features like remote engine start, remote cabin cooling, over the air updates etc. The sunroof and windows will also automatically close once it detects rain on the windshield. The C-Class also comes with Cloud connectivity where it can communicate with other Mercedes cars to receive and give updates on speed bumps, rain, traffic, accidents etc.
The front seats are large and offer good support. Finding the perfect driving position is easy even for a short driver like me. The front seats however do not get cooling function which is sore miss. The biggest highlight of the new C-Class is at the rear. The longer wheelbase has translated to 21mm more legroom. The front seat backs are also nicely scooped out to give that extra space. While headroom is adequate for most, very tall passengers might find it lacking to an extent. A high floor hump means the new C is best for four people. Boot space is compromised because of the space saver tyre mounted on the boot floor itself. A couple of medium sized stroller bags and some camera equipment is all we could manage to fit it. Luggage for long roads trips could be an issue unless you take out the spare wheel. However you will end up in a catch 22 situation. You will need a spare on your trip won’t you?
